The Reverend Andrew J. Archie is the rector of St. Michael and St. George Episcopal Church in Clayton, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis. Prior to moving to Missouri, he served for twelve years as rector of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Purcellville, Virginia. He began his studies with Ed Friedman in 1991 in his Post-graduate Seminars in Family Emotional Process. Since Friedman’s death, he has continued to study at the Center for Family Process and, more recently, with Roberta Gilbert, MD. He joined the LIM Workshops faculty in 1999. He is a graduate of Washington and Lee University and the Virginia Episcopal Seminary. The eldest child of two oldest children, he has worked hard at understanding the Church and himself in terms of emotional systems and to remember, in the words of Friedman, "there are no issues, only emotions." His workshop presentations include: "Dumbledore As A Non-anxious Presence", "The Blessed Virgin Mary: What Do the Presence of the Past and Cutoff Have to Do With Jesus’ Mother?" and "Self-Regulating in the Face of One’s Wife’s Family of Origin".

Elaine Boomer, M.S.W., is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice in Vienna, Virginia. Prior to becoming a therapist, she worked in the corporate marketplace as a Bank Marketing and Training Officer. Her first exposure to Family Systems Theory was through personal coaching from Ed Friedman from 1989 to 1991. After receiving her Masters in Social Work in 1994 from Virginia Commonwealth University, she studied with Ed Friedman until his death in 1996. In addition to serving as a LIM Workshop faculty member since 1996, she often presents seminars and workshops on systems thinking to various community organiozations. As an overfunctioning eldest, her work in understanding emotional systems has "changed her life"! She is co-author of the book, A Family Genogram Workbook. The Reverend Dr. Robert (Bob) L. Dibble became Coordinator of Leadership In Ministry Workshops (LIM) in 2011. He began his participation in the workshops in 1994 and joined the LIM faculty in 2001. Since that time he has coached small groups in all three workshop locations.

A native of Florida, Bob has a diverse vocational background. As a young adult he was employed in Wausau, Wisconsin, as a television cameraman, eventually promoted through the ranks to become both a producer and director. He left that field to serve for eight years in the U. S. Army, where as a Warrant Officer he was a helicopter instructor pilot. His military career included assignments in Texas, Alabama, Hawaii and Georgia.

In 1978 Bob resigned from the military to pursue a call to ministry. He entered New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where he received both his M.Div. and Ed.D. degrees. While in seminary, he was first introduced to BFST when he read Edwin Friedman’s groundbreaking book, Generation to Generation. He served congregations in Louisiana and Mississippi before coming to Virginia in 1989.

For 21 years Bob served as Minister to Adults at River Road Church, Baptist in Richmond, Virginia. A pastoral counselor as well as educator, his ministry has included expanding opportunities for learning, practicing and teaching Bowen Family Systems Theory (BFST) and the leadership teachings of Edwin Friedman. He has led seminars and retreats for adults in local churches and has been both a participant and coach in a local systems group for ministers. Since 1992 he has served as an adjunct faculty member at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond, where he has taught Church Management and Christian Faith Formation in the Congregational Context from a systems perspective.

Bob’s wife, Clarice, is a public school special education teacher and, since 2003, has been a participant in LIM workshops at Lost River, West Virginia. A parent of three daughters and one son, he and Clarice have nine grandchildren who enrich their lives and remind Bob that God has a sense of humor!

He considers his new role as LIM Coordinator as an opportunity to help assure that this unique and affordable training program will continue to be available for ministers and others interested in becoming better self-differentiated leaders.

The Reverend Dr. Israel Galindo is Dean and Professor of Christian Education Formation at the Baptist Theological Seminary at Ricmond, Executive Director of Educational Consultants and edits the Leadership in Ministry newsletter. A former private school principal and hospice chaplain, Prior to moving to Richmond, he was a Pastoral Associate at the Vienna Baptist Church, Vienna, Virginia. He began participation in the Leadership In Ministry Workshops in 1993 and joined the faculty in 1997. The Reverend Dr. Margaret (Meg) B. Hess received her BA from Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. She also graduated from Andover Newton Theological School, where she received a Master of Divinity degree in 1981 and Doctor of Ministry degree, with honors, in Pastoral Counseling in 1994. She is ordained by the American Baptist Churches, USA, where she served pastoratesfor twenty years in Massachusetts and New Hampshire. Adjunct faculty in preaching at Andover Newton Theological School since 1983, Dr. Hess is a Pastoral Counselor with The Emmaus Institute in Nashua, NH, and a Fellow in theAmerican Association of Pastoral Counselors. Meg also facilitates Labyrinth retreats and workshops. Her favorite pastime is baking artisan breads.She is married to Peter Lacey, and they live in Nashua with their daughter Keziah. The Reverend Dr. James Lamkin is pastor of the Northside Drive Baptist Church in Atlanta, Georgia. A native of Louisiana, he has also pastored congregations in Louisiana and Virginia, served as a hospital chaplain and been the director of a regional medical center’s Department of Pastoral Care. A graduate of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, he did his CPE training at Baylor University Medical Center and received his Doctor of Ministry degree from New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary. His sermons and articles have been published in books and periodicals and, in addition to writing and reading, he enjoys juggling and storytelling. James began participation in the Leadership In Ministry Workshops in 1993 and joined the faculty in 2002. The Reverend Margaret J. Marcuson, founder of the Marcuson Leadership Circle, lives in Portland, Oregon. She works with clergy and other leaders who want to practice an easier, more effective way to lead. She is a leader of leaders, ordained minister, and teacher and student of human systems. She speaks and writes on leadership and works with leaders nationally as a consultant and coach. She often works with clergy and churches in crisis. Margaret pastored the First Baptist Church of Gardner, Massachusetts, for thirteen years. She began her studies with Ed Friedman in 1995 and continued to study at the Center for Family Process in Bethesda for six years. She joined the LIM Workshops faculty in 1999. A graduate of the Pacific School of Religion in Berkeley, California, she is also an experienced family member and continually seeks to refine and reframe that experience. She is the author of Leaders Who Last. The Reverend Dr. Lawrence E. Matthews, founder of Leadership In Ministry Workshops in 1992, continues to serve as a LIM faculty coach and leads coaching groups for clergy and counselors at his home in Northern Virginia. He served in pastoral ministry for 42 years, retiring after 32 years as pastor of Vienna Baptist Church, Vienna, Virginia, and was the only clergy faculty member of Dr. Edwin Friedman’s Post Graduate Seminars for Ministers in Family Emotional Process. A graduate of the University of Richmond, he began his clinical training at the School of Pastoral Care of the Bowman Gray Medical Center in Winston Salem, NC and Dix Hill Hospital in Raleigh, NC. He trained with the Institute of Pastoral Psychotherapy of the Pastoral Counseling and Consultation Centers of Greater Washington and graduated from the Doctor of Ministry program at Princeton Seminary. He and his wife, Jean (who has served for a number of years as the LIM videographer) enjoy their seven grandchildren and overseas travel. The Reverend Dr. Betty Pugh Mills has served as pastor of Grace Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia since 1997. She is also Adjunctive Professor of Christian Ministry at Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond. A graduate of Andover Newton Theological School, she received her D. Min. degree from the School of Theology at Virginia Union University in Richmond. She has participated in the LIM workshops since 1996 and joined the faculty in 2005. The Reverend Dr. William T. Pyle serves as Adjunctive Professor of Supervised Ministry at the Campbell University Divinity School. He has taught previously at North Carolina Wesleyan College and Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. A native of Kentucky, he received his M.Div. at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary and his Ph.D from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. He is trained as an Intentional Interim Minister through the Center for Congregational Health and is challenged to understand congregational dynamics from a systems perspective. A participant in the Leadership in Ministry workshops since 2002, he joined the faculty in 2007.

Carla Toenniessen, LMFT, is a family systems coach, educator and practitioner in Fairfax, Virginia who explores the applications of Bowen Family Systems Theory to life and living. In 1988 she received an M.S. Degree in Family and Child Development from Virginia Tech and in 1993 began a more intentional journey with BFST after hearing a presentation by Ed Friedman.. For 31 years Carla worked in the public school system as a teacher and counselor. The school system provided a fertile ground for learning about the importance of systems thinking and family of origin work. Since 1997 she has trained with family systems coaches and coaching groups and participates in Theory Days at the Center for Family Process in Bethesda. Carla has been a participant with the Leadership in Ministry/Leadership in Organizations Workshops at Lost River since 1998 and joined the faculty in 2008.
